Cheryl Evans, LPC, LMFT, BCPCC
Pursuing a counseling degree after retiring from the University of Louisiana as the Associate Dean of Students was a natural progression for me. I had grown to love working with our students, helping them, encouraging them. A degree in counseling gave me the skills to develop what I already had a passion for. And, after 17 years of work as a therapist at Bienvenu Counseling, I couldn’t be more enthusiastic or optimistic about the calling that is on my life. I am doubly licensed by the state of Louisiana as a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Board Certified Christian Counselor. In the years since getting my Master’s degree, I have continued to pursue professional development in numerous areas. Years of training in Ohio at the Ashland Theological Seminary has given me the opportunity to be certified in the area of Formational Prayer, or as some know it, inner healing prayer. Besides having led over twenty 16-week groups, I work with individuals in this area to facilitate emotional healing that has occurred in life. I have traveled with the national ministry called Healing Care Ministry International as a caregiver/team member. And serve on the local board to facilitate meetings in the Acadiana area. Other training includes certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and is regularly used in my practice to help clients recover from trauma. Most recently I have completed a two-year course and am certified as a Spiritual Director. Many of my clients have moved from a counselor relationship with me to one of spiritual direction, where I meet with them on a monthly basis as a spiritual mentor. Active in our local church, my husband Taylor and I have led many marriage groups and small group studies. Sitting on the board of Chi Alpha Ministries at the University of Louisiana has afforded me the opportunity to remain in contact with the heartbeat of the university community.
Message to clients…”There is always more to life than how we are living at the present moment. Jesus states in John 10:10 ‘I have come that I may give you life and that you may have life more abundantly.’ I believe that an abundant life includes emotional health. My prayer is that for those whom I have the privilege of working with that they grow spiritually and emotionally. That they embrace freedom and walk in a greater peace that they have previously known.”
